Endgames

53 Kh3 and black cannot hold off both pawns.
The only way you will find it out is by playing a lot of games. I understand your frustration. It is based on the fact that you dont know yet what you are aiming for. It is very hard. It is easy when you know what you want.
@Soccergirl_08 I'm assuming you have some interest in Rook and pawn endgames from #12. If so you may find my study on that helpful. I did not include any of that material in my beginner course because most beginners are either not interested or do not find their goals served by learning that. Once they are surviving the middle game and have an interest, the chapters in that study have ideas like tpr's suggestion in #13; sheltering the King from checks at h3, and then pushing the a-pawn to a7 - when a White Rook check will win.

Rook And Pawn Endgames
I looked 1s at a random position (52. Re5! 1:0) and I thought to myself that chess is 99% tactics after all.
I think it was recommended several times here in the Forum, but Silman's Complete Endgame Course helps a lot
@Soccergirl_08 what I found out: You need to play overly agressive and materialistic in endgames. Catch pawns and pawns. The more you catch without your opponent getting one back the better. Always have your pieces active. And the most important things are passed pawns. When you have a passed pawn run with it. Sometimes that is even the right choice when it can be captured.
