Connecting with an account during anonymous came left me unable to make a move

I clicked 5+3
didn't realize I wasn't signed in
game started
I made a move then clicked sign in
saw my username
opponent moved
I tried to move - then I saw "trying to reconnect"
reloaded page, my 2nd move wasn't made
tried to move again, saw "trying to reconnect"
so I had to abandon the game

This sounds like things basically working as they should. You can't change a player once a game has started. Seems like a good default rule, even if it stops a case like yours where obviously you are still you. At the very least, it could be confounding and even distracting to a player to see that their opponent (or at least their opponent's ID) had magically changed mid game, not to mention most likely a different rating as well.

Anonymous player I'm sorry for abandoning our game.

Hm, I think changing from Anonymous to Registered is distinct from the idea of a player changing to another account. It's like sitting down at a park then discovering your opponent is a ranked player.

I think the error message should be clearer here.

I wonder what happens if you are Anonymous and reload the page - does the site use a cookie/storage to keep your game connection? If so, then I think using that instead of your registered name makes sense.
