How many more years will chess survive?

Let's assume that technology continues to progress and gives humans more capabilities using AI and other machine learning stuff. Chess would become an impossibility to play without computer help. Currently, the solution is to just have honest people not use machines. However, what if humans become implemented with computer mind supplements or something? Certainly chess would be completely done as a game at that point.

How many years do we have left?
It will survive all of us.

By the way, ther have been „the-end-is-near“ sayers for 2000 years. ;)
That doesn't mean the end won't come. The sun will eventually burn out, even though it hasn't yet.
I think chess going to be here forever, maybe with some minor changes to it's rules. If humans become more intelligent with computer help, it only means that we are going to play the game at a higher level, or faster time controls.
I think the concern you're expressing here comes from a place of wild and reckless optimism. We're not likely to see a world where perfect AI calculation is uniformly synched with every human subconscious.

We're very likely to see a world where the total collapse of society and depletion of resources makes finding regular chess players who don't also want to murder you and steal your water very rare. Someday I fully expect to find myself chasing some hatchet-weilding refugee through the toxic smog filled alleys of Denver, pitifully begging them to come play chess on the board I whittled out of driftwood and tinfoil.

And compared to that, the current era is kind of a golden age.
We have a club here where some of the participants ask me why I never play Fischer Random. I gave two reasons.

1. After asking how long they had exposure, to which most said a few years: I stated that I have had exposure to it for around 25 years. And my exposure has been online. So I could play anyone that accessed that server. So it's not new to me.

2. I am overall more interested in mastering chess main game. I have zero interest in variants beyond blowing off steam.

They accepted that. I did explain that the people that use the game to say they are avoiding openings under 2300 are fooling themselves. Because most u2300 don't even really know openings well enough to need to avoid opening play.

One of my favorite interactions was when I was watching an A class player explain to other players lower than him the essence of the traxler. There was enough interest in the topic that it attracted John Daniel Bryant to the table. At the time he was 2400 and didn't care about titles. When the A class player asked him what he knew about the traxler, he stated, "Nothing" Then stated he didn't have any ideas about most openings. Mostly played sound moves. The topic actually died down after that.
And still you are playing chess...
It must have some fascinating aspects, though...
People can cheat if they want to. But that isn't beneficial for them in brain developing or fun terms. Maybe could be beneficial in winning some low rated tournaments for money prizes - but there are much more profitable ways for living. There would be difference however if some superGM decides to use technology to cheat on top level (World championship) in terms of fame. For regular fans of game we have really great time in history of chess, where the game gets more and more popularity.
