Are there news websites that try to stoke fear in the public?

My example is msn.

Today the linked story on the website saids a Carrington event sized starspot is currently on the Sun. The implication is that solar activity linked to that sunspot could end life on Earth.

Is the money from terrifying people that good? Filth.

Was a specific date mentioned in this article?
(A friend of mine is a prepper; I should contact him soon.)

This was on their news feed today. The MSN news link is preloaded to a system I have to use each day.

Most days msn links something about as ridiculous as this story.

i believe he means when that sunspot would supposedly 'end life on earth'. i think.

No, that's not the implication. The implication is that we could have a solar flare that could damage our electrical grids and communication systems. And they are doing their duty by warning the public about this potential event, just like I'd expect the news media to warn us about a potential asteroid strike.

Where are they stoking fear in the public? Where are they claiming it will end all life on Earth? Where are they even claiming that the solar flare will definitely occur? If you can't quote them as saying this, then they aren't saying it.

If you had a link to the story, that would be better, we could read it. But you don't. So no one knows what you're talking about. Next time just copy and paste a link here.

msn does not provide a balanced context when they flash their copy with links.
