What is chess?

Well, if it's not for winning, then why do you play chess? to have fun, well, that makes it a hobby, not something you want to improve and be good at, since you never want to be better and win. because Mia Hamm once said, "The person that said winning isn't everything, never won anything." I also quote Vince Lombardi, "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." Just pointing out my opinion

i'm NOT saying chess is NOT ALL about winning, i'm just saying it's not the only thing to do in chess

OH DEAR GOD NO OFFENSE U ARE VERY WRONG i guess in small friendly tournaments (does not matter if online or not) it’s ok to help out friends . But I just played in canadas national u12 tournament and there was ABSOULOUTELY NO MERCY THERE once the round started it was a silent chaos so professionally and competitively chess is mainly if not all about winning your match

Just saying if your not serious at chess and. Like u said ur playing an otb so u wouldn’t let a friend just draw with you in a totally winning position right? Or another example is no matter how strong your opponent is your always aiming for a win right? A simple tip is never lose hope and never give up in my tournament for canadas u 12 nationals i came across a 1600 while my cfc rating. Was 1024 i ended up bank ranking him early on due to a queen sac and a pin on the opponents knight.
