Too few Crazyhouse arenas

24 new tournaments have been created for each hour between May 22 0:00 UTC and 23:00 UTC.

Ideally if all works well (not tested yet), you can just bookmark this link, and whenever you open it, it will redirect you to the currently active tournament, based on the current time:

https://nnickoloff1234.github.io/i.want.crazyhouse.html

If it doesn't redirect you (which means something is wrong or it is not May 22 UTC yet/anymore), at least you will see the list of tournaments with links for each timeslot (mind you, times are in UTC).

Alternatively go to:

https://lichess.org/@/blundertulpa1/tournaments/created

For first 12 hours.

And:

https://lichess.org/@/blundertulpa2/tournaments/created

For second 12 hours.

These 2 users (that are kind of fake and hopefully do not violate some lichess rule) have been used to create the tournaments (there is a limit for 12 per user i think) and also are always joined to each tournament to keep it from getting cancelled if empty on start. But don't worry - they are offline so will not get paired with you.

Hopefully all works well. If yes, will repeat same next day, with fixes and more user friendly stuff.

PS: I'm open to suggestions about time controls - currently just arbitrary .

PPS: I suggest if today/tomorrow all works well, especially that link (https://nnickoloff1234.github.io/i.want.crazyhouse.html)
then we can think about some message in the Crazyhouse curator team about those tournaments, as well as other ways of promoting.

PPPS: Also not sure what to do with when timeslots overlap with "official" tournaments. Ask lichess to cancel them (i'm joking obviously)?

PPPPS: Whoever guesses first which audio visual cultural artefact is vaguely referenced in the apparently schizophrenic descriptions of the 2 dummy accounts gets to choose 1 time control in 1 slot

The descriptions are reminiscent of Underworld lyrics, and there seems to be a schlock horror/soft porn movie of the same name. Am I getting close?

Some thoughts...

General:

  • AFAIK, user-created tournaments are cancelled if
    a) there is only 1 player in the tournament,
    b) all participants have paused (simply logging out do not count as pausing); or
    c) tournament timer runs out and no games were played. If two alternative idle accounts join the tournament, it should never be cancelled before timer runs out.
  • Tournament description is useful place to tell about the future tournaments, you can use hyperlinking. F.ex. see description https://lichess.org/tournament/0wiqMIwf
  • I guess we, zh community, could have user-created Hourly Arena for every empty slot, if possible/allowed. I'm afraid the biggest challenges will not be creating them, but spreading the word. The crazyhouse normies will not find their way into the arenas easily. There is always the alternative of playing lobby games when official arena isn't around, but as said previously, that comes with its own disadvantages.

Schedule:

  • I don't care about most of the details, my only suggestion would be to add 1+0 arena for these two time slots: a) 21:30-21:57 after Daily Arenas (there used to be one); and b) 16:30-16:57 after Nations League Team Battle, as 1+0 arena fills out the half an hour nicely.

#23-25 Good MMan yourself!

#23-25 Good MMan yourself!

Created same as Saturday's tournaments also for Sunday, but minus 4. Tournaments for UTC 10:00-12:00 and 22:00 - 24:00 failed.

Will try to think of something more robust so don't get fails like this, plus the ideas suggested by TheFinnisher for Monday.

Again the tournaments are available via the usual links:

The master link doesn't work when there's no tournament, or at least not for me...I get the message saying I should clear the cache.

yeah the message was written with the assumption all 24 hours will be covered with tournaments. but now those 4 time slots that are missing also cause the page to get displayed instead of redirected.

work in progress

New batch of tournaments now mostly scheduled around the official ones and not overlapping with them (still not perfect and haven't taken into account the TP, Elite and Nations stuff).

The link (https://nnickoloff1234.github.io/i.want.crazyhouse.html) will now redirect you to whichever tournament is running (or starts/started the soonest/earliest if none right now or more than one active) no matter if official or non-official.

Might have to refresh cache (CTRL+F5 or SHIFT+F5) if it still shows you the old one.

If all works good, maybe ready to promote to more people. If someone has an idea for a better domain than my github.io thing - it is one static html that runs javascript on the client, nothing serverside, please suggest.
