So many times! When I win -- rare enough -- my opponent instantly, in a bullet minute, faster than I have ever been able to make a move, knee jerk reaction, starts the "revanche" light blinking. (rematch, if you are limited to english)
It irritates me. Why? Not merely because I never, never, do rematch. Their request, proposal, should have no effect. I should just ignore it, and go on analyzing that game, finding another opponent, maintaining my equilibrium. Instead I curse the screen, give the unknown unseen opponent a finger, disturb my own mood.
Why? Because it seems so mentally unstable, childish, that automatic response. To me, the request for revanche is saying "come on you idiot; you beat me that time, but I'm better than you; I dare you to play me again; I'll show you" It seems so tawdry.
I accept that maybe the request is only a good sporting gesture, like playing another game at the club. It doesn't feel that way. A loss affects me also, but it is not my quick unthinking reaction to try to rev up a conflict.
Okay, I spouted my venom. Tell me how wrong I am.
