Wonderful game, really. But I somehow feel all that was being done was trade pieces while nobody pushed for a win. Check out this game tho, it was even more insane. I played black

You are right. When i calculated the sequence i just thought 28. ... Rf8 should suffice. If that is not the case and black indeeds needs to play 28. ... e5 i'd be scared too.
