Losing is fun .

If you can take losing in this way, it is potentially useful, but only up to a point. Being too satisfied with losing contributes to a passive and lethargic approach to play. Losing begets losing begets losing. And we play to win the game. It is a zero-sum endeavor.
For me, defeat is terrible, and I have to recall youthful lessons about sportsmanship afterwards. That, in my view, is the risk of the opposite perspective: a disagreeable affective display that only worsens with time. But competitive spirit pushes us to learn and practice, to look for better moves and respect achievement. It may, if we are fortunate, also cause us to appreciate our opponents, for without them, there is no contest or improvement.
