Is it possible to download the APK file of the new Lichess app?

Not sure how the app is distributed but you can get an alpha version (for testing) after joining this team and then registering in a Google-group: lichess.org/team/lichess-beta-testers . The latest thread in the team's forum should have all the info you need.

the new lichess app has been in public beta for a couple of days now. you don't need to join any teams or google groups anymore.

There's also a direct link to the APK from the "Mobile App" link on the front page (lichess.org/mobile).

afaik there's several ways to get the apk from there, e.g. several secondary apps that promise to download apks from the play store.
