Weird insufficient material claim

I just had a game where I had nothing but a king and my opponent still had tons of pieces and plenty of time. I was about a second away from running out of time, and all of the sudden the game ended with an insufficient material claim message, and it counted the game as a draw.

Is there any rational explanation or is this a bug?

White successfully claimed a draw as black has no series of legal moves to checkmate white.

I think I have an idea of what's happening here but I probably shouldn't say.

Why would they want to claim a draw when they could win so easily?

Maybe he was just playing around with those 1/2 button thinking it was a calculator, or maybe he had to go as something urgent had come up, therefore he claimed the draw to not waste your time.

Whatever happened, you were the one at advantage, so why worry about it. Just play and enjoy yourself.
