Patreon and things like that are donations. Yes, lichess accepts donations, but accepting donations does not mean they are charging fees. Donations are your choice and you don't have to do it. Simple me thinks.

Yes, you do get a patron wing, but is it really that important? It just says they donated.
@Yalturkmani i really doubt anyone donates to get the wing symbol. They donate to support the website. The symbol isnt something being purchased, it is simply a sign that someone is supporting lichess.
