I think I get what you mean, but talent for chess doesn't translate all that well to general intelligence. To give a single example, Kasparov scored 135 when he took an IQ test. Intelligent, but going by how academics convert SAT to IQ, his IQ was about 10 points lower than the average Caltech student's.

Exactly,just as school doesnt translate to intelligence.My IQ is 139 and I have average grades while a guy with the best grades has an IQ of 104

Where I am from, everyone takes IQ tests as well, in part to measure whether or not they will be placed in gifted and talented. I just know that it's not done in a lot of areas.
