Windows 10 is dead, switch to Linux!

@LibreChessChicken said in #110:

(from a ubuntu forum)
"""Now there is a Linux program that will run Chessbase (and .pgn) files fine on Ubuntu.
It is Scidb and is a beautiful program."""

also, there are other apps like encroissant.org/
I've used SCID but it isn't that good, not as smooth and not as good GUI as CB17. Plus it lacks a lot of functional features.

  • no games
    >not true. you can install steam on linux, there are many games for linux like 0AD, Unciv

it's true, and you know it :)
steam... mostly emulation of windows and it sometimes works

I've beein playing on linux for years now, and not only open source games. Baldurs gate 3, Frostpunk, Humankind, etc works no problem on a old (for gaming computer) desktop.

@xropi said in #139:

  • in many cases forced use of cmd line
    >totally not true, unless you have specific hardware issues, which is not everyone, and still linux mint makes it easy to do everything graphically

come on, everybody knows it's true

"everybody knows"... that's a great argument. Also, false. I never NEED to use command line. I still do it often, because it's often easier than the graphical solution (both internally on linux and the M$ equivalent)

@xropi said in #139:

Lemme give an archaic but true example: since when a plain user has to know how to recompile kernel to hack in a driver for a HW? Don't tell me it's not true, I've seen it. (a long time ago, it's true)

Try installing a random printer on Linux and on W$. It's been easier on Linux for almost a decade now XD

Linux is easier than W$ for computer-illetrate people, and it is better for people with advanced computer skills. You (and other) just have a big aversion to change. But don't let other pay for your unwillingness to adapt ;)

@xropi said a lot of other nonsense in #139:

Buddy i wasn't talking about the article being promoted i was talking about Linux being promoted. Are you a stakeholder in their company or smt?

Way to display your ignorance of the linux world... No one talked about Red Hat, which is the only "linux company" that could have "stakeholder" (AFAIK the other are hardware companies that also developp OS). Your argument actually only works against people defending W$ here, so thx for your contribution :D

I'm using Linux since many years. It's fast, stable, secure, has reliable software updates and a very easy user interface (depends of course on the specific distribution). However it has one major disadvantage compared to Windows or MacOS : the lack of hardware support. Often there is no device driver available or only a crappy one. Older computers are usually well supported though.

Linux allowed me to turn an old laptop and an old tv into a smart tv :P. It's a shame so many people is just throwing away old pcs, to buy a new one just to use word, mail, store pictures and watch some movies: there is plenty of free OS and softwares to do the job.

Using Linux (mostly Ubuntu) for almost 20 years now and will never get back to f*ing Windows even on the point of sword.

Using Linux for 15 years; nothing like it; never switched back to rwindows. The matrix completly different, and empowers de user. Free is free like in libre, not chained.

Windows 10 will receive security updates until October 2028. If you have it on your device, there's no reason to switch away from it until then.
