Yes, there are some who sincerely believe such things, but most don't, in my opinion. I befriended a guy two years ago and we would hang around, and sometimes do some music together and after about 4 months I learnt he was "flat earther", and I was really surprised. Then when I sloooowly started asking him about that, I realised he doesn't believe the shape of the earth is really flat.
It's always more likely on various forums they just want some fun, and sometimes (maybe more often than one would think) they do have some serious agenda, like anti religion, free speech or just generally raising the gap between "two groups" of people.
