'Good Game' vs 'Well played'

I've adopted "Thanks for the game" for OTB play, something I can say sincerely in any situation whether the game was hard or easy or won or lost or whoever the opponent may be.
I think LICHESS could add a "shake hands" button. This would solve any problems.
#34 "White/Black offers Handshake" --> "White/Black declines Handshake" lol
I'd like to disagree with the OP. Politeness is courteous, not passive aggressive sarcasm. You are projecting your negative viewpoint on everyone who says gg, wp. It is your problem, not theirs. I will continue to be courteous, and if you take it the wrong way, it is your shortcoming. I won't cripple courtesy because someone might take it wrong. That would be stupid.
@Evelynamodifieddog as #31 says ''Well played' after a hard-earnt win isn't sarcasm. That may be true.

Saying 'Well played' after you crush your opponent is sarcasm. You are not being courteous when you say it in that way. How can you not tell the difference?

I don't suffer from the weakness that causes passive aggressive tendencies, so that kind of paranoid thought doesn't occur to me. I say things sincerely, the way someone who isn't afraid to exist authentically does. I would gain nothing from pretending to say well played and actually meaning the opposite. That's a cowardly way of being that I just can't relate to.
