You could try this setup: 1. f4 d5 2. Nf3 c5 (You grab most of the center since white has only the f-pawn in play, this should give you a nice advantage)
3. g3 Nc6 4. Bg2 g6 (developing)
5. O-O Bg7 6. d3 Nf6 (developing more)

Here is an example of a nicegame which black won against the bird's opening, although I would have played a different setup (the setup that I mentioned that you should try out above) to not allow white to get a lot of central space: lichess.org/Gs93xhe7#72 .
I would recommend From's gambit

I would not suggest to play a gambit, as it is a tournament game. Also, the gambit is rather unsound, look at this line, white simply has an extra pawn:
1. f4 e5 2. fxe5 d6 3. exd6 Bxd6 4. Nf3 Nf6
5. Nc3 O-O 6. g3 Nc6 7. Bg2 h6 8. O-O Bg4
9. d3 Qd7 10. e4
No problem, wish you good luck against your opponent!
I don’t know which SOS volume. But just google, there are some videos online. Btw, I play normal stuff as well.
