The History of Chess

Hello Everyone! I recently decided to write my 12th-grade research paper on the History of Chess (from the 1400s to the mid-1900s) and I thought asking the Lichess community was a good way to get some sources/ideas for the paper. If anyone has a good source -primary or not- I would genuinely appreciate that. If you have an interesting topic/perspective that you think would be interesting in the paper, be my guest and comment it!

Thanks for all your cooperation!

Started in India. That's all I remember off the top of my head.
Chess was originated from Chaturanga, an ancient Indian game whose first evidences for existence from the Gupta Empire in India around the 6th century AD. So the ancient version of Chess has existed for about 1500 years. Chess was introduced in it's modern form around 1500, so now it is around 500 years old.
About "interesting topic/perspective" these ideas come to mind for me:

- how chess rules evolved during those centuries
- how chess and its popularity spread geographically during those centuries
- how chess evolved from a simple game to a competitive sport, maybe focusing on social spheres / places where it was played, how the first tournaments and titles appeared, key people, key moments, ...

and maybe but probably not:
- how the knowledge of chess evolved (this one would probably be a better perspective if your research went past the mid-1900s)
