I have a theory that it's some sort of Pavlovian attempt to improve our chess. It's like a punishment for losing. Meanwhile, the " you did well in the tournament" music is much more soothing.

I've had my share of freakouts. But now What usually happens is when I'm super into the game and moving towards a gorgeous plan with a big sh*t eating grin on my face then all the sudden SMACK! *gling* "checkmate" my face pops like a "Panic Pete" squeeze toy as I stare at the board drooling over what just happened while my brain tries to reconnect.
Squeeze toys are bad.
Specially when you thought you had the game in your pocket.. it sure tickles a nerve..
