Which variant is the best

there's no competition here; it's racing kings!
I don't even play variants. I can barely handle regular chess. What variants should I play and how will it benefit me as a chess player?

I think crazyhouse can develop reflexes used for standard chess.

including prophylaxis and protection of your king. From a tactical point of view, there are also valuable skills in both, such as recognizing checkmate patterns.

I don't want to be mean, but if you want a variant that makes you progress in standard, it won't be atomic, nor antichess, nor horde, nor KOTH, maybe Three check, but still, the aim of this game is quite far from standard chess.

If you want something where you only have checkmate to win or lose, Crazyhouse is the solution.

I would also suggest antichess. It gets you good at move combos and calculating the best moves, even if their moves about consecutive sacrifices. On second thought, play it if you wanna be worse.
