What is a logo?

honestly, I too wanted to revolt against the wrong using of the term logo, thanks clousems!
The sad thing is, many of them call themselves as logomakers on this site. the thing is, you're partially correct, not completely. If you're creating one for a team, without text included in it, it is indeed a logo. but, if you include text in it, such as, "randomspamstuff team" 'pls join' on it, it is not a logo. in some aspects inserting text is also considered as a logo, but that is a complete different aspect. modern companies usually don't use that concept, until and unless they have some cool calligraphy to that text. but, for some companies which did not change their logo since ages, that's different aspect (ex:- samsung [ Though There is a minor change in the letter "A"]).

The sad thing is, that there are many dudes out there who are literally opposing clousems in this. In this topic, I am totally supporting clousems. The people who know correct terminology and know english will surely support clousems, there is no question in that. and for the dudes who oppose, you seriously need to go back to kindergarten.
ok, so actually, in lichess, logo's till today (for most of them) meant pictographic representation of cool stuff with nice font style and gifs all around including a cool background.
well, now I guess we start calling them as profile picture (as pawnedge said) or dp (display picture)
now logomakers are called as dpmakers??
Dialects and slangs appear when a group of persons start using certain words in a way that is not the conventional way.

Besides, the meaning of words is not carved in marble forever. It constantly evolves, due to how people use those very words. A few decades ago, the meaning of "awesome" was much closer to "awful" than to the expression of coolness it is today.

In Lichess forum slang, "logo" just means dumb ugly image that people put on their profile, and "hacker" means someone who tricks you and kicks you out of your team.

Revolting against the appearance of new slangs or against the natural evolution of languages is as pointless as revolting against gravitation or natural selection.
Idk. As a logo maker, I was known with the term 'Logo' as profile picture. IDK who started this...
