Thoughts on the rise of brainrot?

Lord, call me old, but back when I was a kid, stupidity was something to be ridiculed, and reading books was cool, and learning new things was fun and exciting and engaging and interesting and...
sigh

Man, you're so ohio! Wonder when such people will get skibidised!

Just kidding, totally agreed with you.. but what can we do? Us critisizing it, won't make it any bit less popular.

on one hand, it just seems like slang. what’s so wrong about slang?

on the other, it feels a lot more so like the extension of short-form content into conversations, which scares me. i don’t want to hear the same three responses when i talk about the meaning of song lyrics, and i expect those meaningful conversations to diminish in length and depth because of the prominence of brainrot

It bothers me a lot, but it should at least be kept to a minimum, even if someone is only joking. It drives me insane when I go to class and see "erm wghat teh sigma" and "hes so sigma rizzler" in the chat box. It's spreading like a plague; everywhere you go, you run into absurd amounts of it. None of it makes sense anyways. When it first became popular (2022 or 2023), I thought some of it was funny, but at this point, it's like watching the same episode of a show over and over. It gets old.
I just wish it would go away, but we all know that will be a while, and there will be something just as bad, if not worse, next.
(wow, after rereading this, I feel like this could spark an argument...)

I also have a little brother and bro is talking another language.
I do not understand anything from what does he say
