Martial Arts AMA: Curious? Ask!

what is the best type of martial arts for self defense in a real life situation.
Thank you for the question:

USPSA/IDPA/IPSC pistol disciplines are by far the best martial arts for self defense in real life situations. Empty hand?
The one you know and train.
Punches have stopped more fights than any other technique, so, Boxing is probably the most successful martial art for self defense. On the other hand, training and competing in boxing results in brain damage, so is it really self defense? Self Defense is a lifestyle where unarmed martial arts are only one tool.
Realizing that potential danger is or could be developing in one’s immediate environment is paramount. Knowing when to leave that environment is key. Of course, it’s not always possible. That’s when my black belt in TKD came in handy. (No pun intended)
Are there any movie scenes that have spectacular, but still credible, martial arts?

Too many to list. Credible is subjective.
