Mostly I just ignore them and block but occasionally I do like to lead them on,make them salivate and leave them frustrated. Waste their time as they're wasted mine. Every day I receive phone calls from scammers.
at the moment I have half a dozen numbers, all different, but the only thing in common is the telephone code for England. they call me daily.
Next time, I will answer “long live Scotland !” or "Montjoie Anjou !“ to see if it is indeed, the English.
once I even received a call from Benin. it must be an ambassador or Brad Pitt
I used to have fun messing with the phone scammers, but... color me paranoid...
Now that the bad guys have the technology to fake voices, given just a few minutes of the real voice, I no longer speak to any shady people over the phone.
Regarding the "relative in jail" scam call, I recently heard a good suggestion: Have a "code word" set up with your relatives. If you supposedly get a call from your nephew in a Mexican jail, you just ask your "nephew" for the code word. If he can't give the code word, well then...

And this scam calling thing has grown so much one day a bank manager a real bank manager called me and was saying sir please don't cut the call i am really a bank manager and not a scammer lol ...
Even I am a volunteer of an NGO and when it's about donating some money for poor kids education people hesitate to click the donation link but it's tough to make them understand that it's a true link.

So once my chess coach got a scam call. He gave me the phone and told that it was my dad on the line. I ended up believing him and asked 'hello daddy' to which he responded " Do you want insurance?" ( In hindi) And I started laughing and hung up the call. After that I still confirm who I am talking to and then proceed to speak lol
I do my very best. I haven't got one for a long time now. I fear I've been blacklisted...
I'm so sad...
I have a recorder on my phone and when the scammer gets done with their first sentence,
I play back their words to them until they hang up.
