Could Canada make the United States our 11th province?

Let's face it: the idea that the USA could arbitrarily force Canada into relinquishing its sovereignty is laughable to anyone who has an attention span of more than a nanosecond and more than two neurons to rub together. (which doesn't exclude many Americans, btw) But what if the shoe were on the other foot? What if the excesses of imperial overreach came back to bite them so firmly and fiercely on the backside that they thought, for a moment, "Hey, this ain't workin' out the way we thought. Maybe we should try something else?" What if they thought, not of imposing their imperial aims on others but of learning somethig for a change? What would be a more natural result than to join Canada, and learn from one of the best countries in the world? (Well, at least a country that is culturally not entirely dissimilar to theirs, and still one far above them on any meaningful list of best countries in the world) What if the USA decided to ask, beg and plead to become part of Canada?

Well, to begin with, it would not automatically become our 11th province. It would become a territory. Sort of like how Puerto Rico is to the current USA. We would appoint a Lieutenant Governor to oversee the management and hopeful transition to genuine provincial partnership, but for at least a generation it would remain, how shall we say? An unlikely amalgam of benighted savages in need of instruction before they could be assimilated. Even with the passage of time and effective legislation though, it would take something more to turn the former USA into something that might be called civilization. It would take an international effort. Fortunately for those poor ignorant Americans, Canadians are rather good at this.

The Danes have been rather upset, as they should be, by American claims to Greenland. We propose an unprecedented exchange: relocate every living American citizen to Greenland. Every. Living. One. Let's see how they like it now. In exchange, Danes and Greenlanders who feel so inclined, may, at their pleasure, migrate to California (spelt with the scandinavian O) or Oregon (guess how that is spelled) Yup, in the interests of fairness and global security, Canada is willing to cede territories on our new southwest coast for a reliable partnership with our reliable allies. The Danes, so far as I know, have never betrayed our trust.

To continue: Texas has always been a trouble spot for the Americans. Perhaps we should give it back to the Mexicans? It was theirs in the first place, and it seems that the USAnians have really messed things up since they stole it. Come to think of it, wouldn't it solve a lot of problems if we gave Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada all back to Mexico? Let them worry about the crime and drugs and what not. They have more experience at dealing with those problems than we have. A case of diplomatic flexibility leading to increased co-operation and long term mutual benefit. Once we get those parasitic USAnians out of the way, we can make real progress in dealing with the root causes of the drug problem. This might lead to unintended issues with the Danes over southern California, but I'm sure things can be worked out. With such a big pie to split up, everyone should be happy.

We will have a little more difficulty negotiating the repatriation of Florida to Cuba, because the Israelis have a prior claim to large tracts of Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach. I'm sure if we give them enough of Manhattan and the surrounding area, an agreement can be reached. And in the spirit of co-operation, they have a lot of experience in relocating an unwilling population. We don't want to put too much stress on our friends, the Danes.

Consistent with Canadian practice, every American school child will have to learn two foreign languages at school: English and French. Neither of which, it seems, is currently taught in American classrooms. Well, no matter. With the expulsion of the USAnians to Greenland, we will be free to bring in fully qualified teachers to instruct our new citizens on their civic duties, history, and obligations. What? Did you think we would let the young ones go? They are a valuable resource, not something to be wasted. We Canadians care about our youngsters. We will send them to education camps to learn traditional Canadian values. After a few weeks,they won't even remember their parents. Given how many American parents are, that has got to be a good thing.

And so, Canada would at last bring security to the hemisphere without hegemony. Peace with our allies and neighbors without threats. Natural leadership.

I would welcome universal health care and other Canadian social services.

I think it's a trick to give US a better Olympic hockey team. And maybe so California can steal your fresh water from those huge lakes.

Trump's approval rating is at an all time high... Given that Trump crushed the electoral vote and got the popular vote to boot It's safe to say the majority of Americans finally understand his NY businessman Bravado... and WE Don't take everything he say's at face value.

As someone who lives on the boarder of Canada... I know 90% of Canadians live within 30 miles of the US Border. Why.... ? The American economy... that is why. Living on the boarder.... I know that the goods and services that go into Canada are slim and next to none when compared to Canadian goods and services coming into America (once again I will point to the 90% of Canadians living on the border and the obvious reason why)

Trump is always about the Negotiation.... & always about controlling the environment in which the negotiations are going to happen. It's clear... he was saying that to get Canada's attention.

It's factual say that playing semantics with his words, as you did..... or taking them out of context, or just assuming what direction he's headed... has cost the Liberal ideology in the USA dearly ...

lets take stock ... let's see where we are at. In Canada, Justin Trudeau just resigned did he not? The strong winds of change that came from the south (The USA) ... did not help his cause... Those winds are starting to blow into Europe I might add.

ABC, CBS and NBC... Not bankrupt... but irreparable damage done to their credibility and news agency... NO LONGER can the term legacy media be used as a way of saying "the majority of news outlets"
