At the current rate, it'll take 67 days until 1,000,000 people have been reported to have died from COVID-19 (although there will hopefully be significant intervention in the mean time!) 15th of July

What is not said is that America also leads the world in cases diagnosed , and covid deaths.

obladie that data is not the most accurate either. For example the UK has had over 60,000 excess deaths in the period March to May this year, compared to previous years. However UK death figure from covid 19 is quoted at 32,000.
No Country wants to give worse figures than others and put their Governments under pressure. UK seems to have made errors with their herd immunity tactic at the beginning and entering lockdown later than they should have. Having said that Sweden have not declared lockdown and their figures are not exceptionally bad, with only a reported 3,000 deaths.
