Lichess's off-topic discussion has either become politics or songs, I remember the good old days when everyone was talking about stuff where I could go in and make a meme out of it :(

Memes are boring. Opinion polls are boring.

Off-topic still isn't boring. There are still random "what's your favorite [thing]" threads.
There are also legitimate questions not related to politics.

That's what I called above "opinion polls". Plus the majority of them have already been asked several times before.
