Why does the clock not advance when a player pre-moves?

Why does the clock not advance when a player pre-moves? This is unrealistic; if a person played with a real clock, it would have to advance a little between moving a piece and stopping the clock.
Also, why can you play against people from different continents? This is unrealistic, if two people play on a real chessboard, they have to sit in the same room.
Wait it's allowed to post YouTube links in lichess forums? And yeah realism is out the window once online play is involved
ShiningDrongo makes a completely asinine argument in post #2. People playing chess across the world over the Internet has absolutely nothing to do with lichess being programmed to function in a realistic manner. They both can be, and should be, accomplished.

On lichess, we don't play with actual pieces. The clock is stopped as soon as we communicate the move to the server. With premoves, the server already received the move when it's time to start the clock.

I hope you play each game with a pencil and a scoresheet.
Since according to the laws of chess you don't have to wait for your opponent to press the clock before you make your move. So a premove without losing time is otb possible while unlikely.
