"warning, letting time run out ..."

not sure if this issue has been brought up yet. but this is the 4th time in a week I've seen this happen. to myself and my opponents.

the scenario goes we are in a heated fast paced game. the game reaches a critical and complicated position which causes the player to take more time to analyze till finally deciding it's over and resigns.

then a warning is given about possibly being banned if this happens again. in this case. my opponent had 30 seconds left and used 25 seconds to find any saving move till finally deciding it would be best to resign, respectfully.

I don't see why he or I in similar scenarios should be issued a warning and possible ban if this occurs numerous times in a short span.

My suggestion is only to warn those who abandon the game entirely letting the clock run to zero. even as a respectful and decent player, I sometimes look track of the clock and simply lose on time thinking there was at least 10 more seconds.

not a big deal but thought I'd bring light to this possible flaw in the lichess rules. it's perhaps being unintentionally a little too strict. regardless the site is still the best IMO and please do keep up the good work!

Cheers, Soul

A lot of users get this.
It is not too strict because you aren't getting timeouts from games after one warning.
Yeah I just got this warning again after thinking for a few seconds trying to save my position and then resigning. I understand that nothing happens without human review but it's still unpleasant and seems pretty fixable. Don't hector players about needing to resign when they do resign, how hard is that?
At the same time, when players really are letting the clock run down, there never seems to be much incentive for them not to do that...
I agree cafecheck. I quite often have to wait over a minute in a blitz game when an opponent just let's the clock run down after a bad move. Maybe a double rating loss would stop this? I understand sometimes people just get disconnected but if it was straight after a blunder? Anyway, not really an issue. Just a thought and I wanted a little moan

This Happened Even To Me When I Was Playing A Bullet Game & The Time Ran Out, It Came Exactly Like This!
Just happened AGAIN. I resigned with 47 seconds left on my clock and got warned for "letting time run out instead of resigning". Are we not allowed to spend a few seconds looking for saving moves?? This is ridiculous.
