unfriendly chess = lichess

This is easily the most unfriendly place on the internet for chess.

Maybe they dislike the country I was born in or something. Not sure. But the stream of aholes that will come my way on certain nights is beyond compare anywhere I've ever played chess online. Comes in epic waves of coordinated aholes like a downpour of rain. Whether it's a group of people or a single person with 30 names here I have no idea. But they all act very similar.

Just letting you know. Like I'll make sure to let others know when they ask. I'm sure lichess folks will say they do what they can. But It's really up to you to not let rotten people take control of your interface and setup and give you a bad name in long run.
I hope this is relevant as I wonder if the poster is talking etiquette. I have a few questions:
1. You pick a player out of the lobby and ask him to play. Are there any standards that say who should ask or offer a rematch, I.e. the winner or the loser or does it matter?
2. If you offer a rematch, what is an acceptable amount of time to wait for an answer. I understand a player may have to use the bathroom or let the dog inside or many other things, but is there a time limit for waiting?
3. This whole idea of players leaving the game can be rather aggravating. Once again, I understand there are times when a player has to leave the game, maybe to answer the door or turn off the stove but there are players who spend a major portion of a game away from the table.
I am a low rated player. I play around1400. I play for fun although the gambler in me says "play for something, even if it is just points". I don't cheat. At least no knowingly. One other thing. I don't believe in surrendering. I think going for a stalemate is a legitimate ploy. Am I wrong?
So @lefturnclyde , without naming names, what kinds of things are you talking about? I play both here and at chess.com and find very little "bad behavior" at either site. For the most part people play their games and move on - no nasty messages, only very rare instances where someone leaves a game or lets their clock run out...maybe it's the lower rated bullet pool? I don't play bullet so don't know.

I don't agree at all, I find it really friendly and really enjoy the social aspect of Lichess. Do you play lobby or arenas? I mainly play arenas for the craic and chat with friends there.

I also play a lot of team battles which also have a nice sociable element. I don't really understand your point since you haven't given us much to go on.

I have no idea where you were born and I'm not sure how anyone else would know that.

I am trying to visualise this torrential downpour of a-holes as you say and I think you must have the wrong website. Lichess is full of wonderful people of all ages, genders and nationalities.

I am still mystified as to the nature of your complaint but I hope things get better for you. There is always report and block if you encounter bad behaviour on the site.

On chess.com I was called rude names on more than a few occasions. If anything, lichess.org is better bc there's fewer players, therfore lower chance that a rogue will cross your path.
I've been waiting for a long time for someone to insult me or call me a cheater on Lichess, but I haven't achieved that goal yet.
I guess I need to play better.
On chesscom people sometimes send me messages to my inbox to insult me after a game. Never experienced that on Lichess.

I highly disagree with you and I'm skeptical of this assumption you have. We're all just trying to play a fun and exciting game on a amazing and brilliant website. If you have these weird and unfriendly lies yourself, just leave the website, theres no point in posting.

#Lichess4ever
Too much trollbait success again, all of you should've just clicked that nice report button and choose "verbal abuse" or similar

I don't know what other sites you have in mind, but in my experience, there's a lot more aggression over on chess-com.

Is the main reason you've taken your anger out at lichess because that you regularly lose to low-rated players and can't contain yourself? If so, seek a psychiatrist and don't play on lichess anymore.
