This forum is dying

Or maybe i should say it's a mess but now i can't change the title anymore. It's very active, so it technically isn't dying activity wise but the high, unfiltered activity is also kind of its problem which kills the quality of this forum.

Every single time i click the forum button i regret it after 5 minutes at most. Sadly this forum has become an absolute cesspool in the last time, probably because of all the young, new members that came with the chess boom.
90% of threads are low effort shitposts in broken english, spam, people who just blatantly advertise their team, dumb Facebook-like tag "games," etc. Especially the off-topic sections is used for spamming and troll posts although it should be just another normal forum for discussions not regarding chess.
Actual, smart discussions and quality posts are an absolute rarity nowadays, although i appreciate when they happen.

Is the lichess team aware that they are letting the lichess forum die with their lack of moderation?
The forum is now the only bad thing about lichess and just paints a wrong picture of the otherwise great site and community.
It would be quiete easy to have community moderators like every other forum on the internet but if the situation stays like it is right now every quality post will be spammed aside, everyone looking for quality discussions will just walk away and only the spammers and trolls will stay.

We have to do more than just take out the REALLY bad offenders. We need to stop the flood of low effort posts, enforce a stricter ruleset and demand a minimum quality standard for titles, posts and also replies. Also posts should be moved to the right section, they are frequently posted in the wrong one. There could still be a new unmoderated part of the forum for trash, fun and games.
(Maybe also have an IQ test as a safety captcha instead of a chess puzzle) (Joke but kind of a good idea now that i'm thinking about it)

PLEASE take action.
I bet many of the good people here would be more than happy to help out as community moderators.
@SteveEricJordan Assessing post quality is hard/subjective. Never give moderator rights to anyone who wants to be a moderator. This forum would be better if there were two orders of magnitude more info in the FAQ and attempts to post questions relating to information stored there was detected before posting.

I like your IQ test idea, though. And I agree about the pidgin English. This forum welcomes non-English so why not just post fluently in a language one is comfortable using instead of all this massages and similes nonsense. Finally I'd like to propose a life ban on anyone who uses the word hack in forum posts to describe the predictable consequences of a moronic team leader giving team leader permission to another moron.
@Doofenshmirtz "Assessing post quality is hard/subjective"
Nah, it really isn't. Literally all forums on the internet do it.
I agree that we need competent moderators and a consistent ruleset they moderate by of course.

I don't think i have to explain the concept of forum moderation, i'm not talking about anything revolutionary here, i'm just saying that we should do the same, established thing every other forum does but the lichess forum somehow doesn't.
Forums need moderation, anarchy doesn't work on the internet.
This forum had a respectable level until the Coronavirus disease caused most to exhibit cabin fever.

As for the broken English, I disagree. English is the most common (official) language on this planet, so to get the best responses, it the the choice.
@jonesmh "As for the broken English, I disagree. English is the most common (official) language on this planet, so to get the best responses, it the the choice"

I agree although i think often times it's more of a lack of effort than an actual lack of knowledge of the english language.
My english is pretty bad for example but i take my time to correct mistakes before hitting the post button. Many people here don't.
#1 "Is the lichess team aware that they are letting the lichess forum die with their lack of moderation?"

Yes, the team is aware that the forum is a mess.
@Toadofsky are they planning to do something about it?

@hanishburger777 "I challenged Magnus to 180+180 game........ i wonder if he accepts.. lol"
This is a perfect example of the spam i was talking about.
