Wasn`t the intention to make it more simple?
Take inspiration from the tornelo.com platform.
Tornelo offers many possibilities for the Swiss tournament director.
Tornelo is an excellent platform to play slow game tournaments over several days.

I run into this problem, too, when planning classical tournaments on weekends.
How to solve:
• Automatically pause all players until 5 or 10 minutes before the next round (When programming this, you have to consider what to do in case of manually scheduled rounds that start within the period.)
• Only pair players which are online (Good in most cases, may be a problem if you have connection troubles. But in this case playing chess is not so funny ...)
• Give director or tournament the possibility to pause or to stop players continuing the tournament (Of course this feature could be misused by the director, therefore solutions above may be better.)
• Enter a new parameter to set the time after which a player loses, if he did not make his 1st move (But I do not like this too much: His opponent wanted to play a game and will not be satisfied by winning without playing.)
In any case, it would be great, if the creator of a tournament could select the method of rating (for making new pairings and for the final result):
• sum of points or
• percentage of points or
• percentage of points without those games when a player paused and got a half point
Additionally you would need a parameter: minimum number of games a player needs to be added to the final ranking.
