IP Address Problems

Hello, I have a few questions about IP addresses.

I know for a fact that most internet providers change our IP Address every time we restart our internet modem.

  1. Suppose for some reason, I restart my modem, and I get the IP of an IP banned person. Will I still be able to play?
  2. Can IP banned people evade IP bans this way?
  3. If some person gets an IP address which I previously used before restarting my modem, and the person cheats so much that he gets IP banned. Will I get IP banned too?

There are 4,294,967,296 possible IP-adresses. Lichess probably doesn't have more than 200k? bans. This means the chances of you being put in a banned IP adress or vise versa are neglectable.

You ask interesting questions, and question I was gonna ask, IDk, this needs to be answered by @thibault or any mod!

Anyone using IP addresses to ban people for more than a few hours is an idiot who doesn't know how the internet works. I think we can assume the people who run this site know how the internet works, so you should be safe.

But yes, if a site bans people via IP address then obviously you will be banned if you have a banned IP address. How could it be any other way?

You have a limited set of ip addresses with similar last 2 digits assigned to your modem . If those aren't banned you can use lichess .
Know the right facts or don't at all .

@SynapticSentinel #2:
I know the chances are slim, but what if it happens? Will my account get banned forever?

@cFlour my best guess: All accounts from the same IP get banned when someone cheats. However, it is not an IP ban. So if only you use your IP for playing on Lichess, your account will never be banned, independent if you switch IP or not.

@SynapticSentinel perhaps it would be better for you to not fill this forum without knowing all the facts.

Lichess IP bans someone if they see repeated cheating incidents, and not with only 1 incident.

@cFlour My best guess was based on chess.com's reaction to a first incident. If you know more, then why ask the question? Moderators will likely not respond, but at least we know something now.

Does Anyone Else who might live nearby play on Lichess?
