Help! Account will be closed due to offensive username, while it is perfectly fine :-O

Lichess just sent me a message they will close my account due to an inappropriate username. My username is

'kill-with-ammonia'.

Ammonia has chemical formula NH3 and refers to the move 1. Nh3, which I use to open all my white games with.

Is there anything I can do to prevent my account being closed after 48 hours as lichess says will happen?

The reasoning is extremely deep, and on the surface it seems just to be a referencing to killing with ammonia (who would have guessed?). I'm not quite sure if appealing is the correct thing to do here, but it seems to be the only feasible option. I am sure many of your opponents do not quite get the hidden meaning behind your username, hence the "inappropriate name".

i must say the username is awesome, but the site contains people from all ages & our children should be protected from misunderstanding.

Without your explanation your usernames does sound offensive, and TBH I did not get the "hidden" meaning myself without the explanation... so it is easy to misunderstand, I think.

Given the fact that you actually do play 1.Nh3 in many of your games, I think an appeal will have a decent chance, and I wish you the best of luck with it!

If you are allowed to keep your account, I think it might be a good idea for you to include a short explanation on your profile page, just to prevent further misunderstandings.

I know this man, he has been so friendly and we talked for a long time. He described his username for me weeks ago, and played Nh3 in most of the games.

Thank you for your suggestion to include an explanation on my profile page and also to appeal, @Sefegiru.

I just wonder, isn't it a bit oversensitive to feel offended, just by such a username? I have the feeling that there are much greater things to worry about. TBH, I guess that lichess just scanned all its usernames in an automated fashion and ban usernames that include a blacklisted word. But maybe I am too ignorant in this and should deal with these things in a more sensitive way.

In any case, I will appeal and see what comes out of that. Thanks!
