Why take C6 bishop with D7 pawn rather than B7

Hi, I've noticed that at my low level everyone takes a C6 bishop after capturing the knight in a rui lopez opening with a B7 pawn. The computer in the game analysis thing and some youtube videos however seems to prefer doing it with the D7 pawn. I get why people do this, so that they dont lose a center pawn. Why is the opposite proposed by people and computers who know what they are doing?
oops i suspect this belongs in game analysis..
The issue is what Black is going to do if White plays 5.Nxe5. While tactically Black can win back the pawn in either case (4... dxc6 or 4... bxc6), most people prefer the positions Black gets after 4... dxc6 5.Nxe5 Qd4. Indeed, 5.Nxe5 is a mistake after dxc6.
Basically, more solid structure, two islands instead of three. Missing central pawn but bishop pair and open center. Overall, experience speaks for the d-pawn capture.
And what #3 said too, of course.

The general rule is to capture towards the center, but capturing with the d-pawn opens the diagonal of Bc8 and the d-file of Qd8 making it preferable in this case. After 4...bxc6 white can play 5 d4 unopposed.
Hey everyone answers without even knowing the specific line. I mean maybe its always d takes c. But still.
your opponents are pretty weak and possibly have not seen the situation that often. And very few study opening event tothat depth. And taking the c6 with bishop leads to boring games. So I woudl recommend for you to go Ba4 which is about 8-9 more popular move than taking the pony
