Why Lichess is Free and Chess.com is Paid?

I use both, but I'm finding myself using lichess.org more and more and only using chess.com for the longer correspondence type tournaments. There are subtle little details between both of them that just make lichess the better operating, smoother, and more stable site to use. Hence why I've decided to get the wings and become a patron :)

What happened to the use of the horsey emoticon. Even the word horsey is misleading.

It means fresh point of view not BS. There would be a turd of some kind for that. And it would be bad tone anyway.

I can't even use it now to show my respect for a fresh angle or point of view that gives me hope for humanity, well at leas this forum...

Well , lichess is a non profit organization . chess.com on other hand is more like company . Chess.com wants money to run the huge website . While lichess is also huge but it has lower players than chess.com . Just imagine running a website in which 30 million people are there . You of course will be shocked .

So that's what the horsey means!
