Chess engines are useful training tools (thought process, openings, endings), not friends !
But I'd rather play games against a computer than against a cheating player.

My opinion... (I've been playing against computers lately due to #3)
- shredder is a much more human like opponent at its levels than stockfish. stockfish just drops a piece intermittently then plays 3000 level moves in between. the stockfish level seems to be set by how freqently it drops a piece.
- playing stockfish has helped me watch out for opponents tactics since it doesnt miss most 2 move tactics. This has helped me because I tend to focus on my plan so much sometimes I miss athreat.
- Playing a person is MUCH more fun but I also feel more compelled to make it a good game for their sake. So if it's end of day, I'm tired, have had a glass of wine [or 2] I play the computer. playing a person is especially fun if afterwards they give you a short comment about their game thoughts.
- I'll say it again, shredder is MUCH better to play against than stockfish at intermediate levels. If I'm learning a new opening I set the position I want to study, set shredder level = me+200 then play and analyze then play again until I'm losing late in the game.

How to beat SF8:
- Survive the opening.
- Exchange everything without blundering.
- It sucks in endings.

I must confess i asked a friend for help several times, because Stockfish sacrificed a lot of Bishops, but the ending was easy.
Fun fact. I had the position not just one time xD

Btw: This is why you really have to try to survive the opening

Guys, you do realise that even if you did engrave Stockfish 8 in your brain, it would mean that you would be cheat detected on Lichess because it is the same moves as the computer.
I like the computer because I can crush lvl 5
I hate it because I don't get any rating points for that😂😂😂
