When should you trade pieces?

Hey guys! If you look at my games in my profile, you can see that I trade pieces a lot, especially the queens. Usually it works out for me, but as my rating has been getting higher, I am starting to lost games when I trade. I used to trade bishop for knight very early in the games to double my opponents pawns, but currently its not necessarily working for me.

So any "chess experts" out there, when should I trade pieces, specifically queens, knight for bishop and vice versa, and would doubling your opponents pawns count as a valid advantage to trade pieces for? What else would count as a good advantage to trade for?
@benx10. Do not trade bishops for knights without a good reason(for example your opponent gains double isolated pawns I would say is a justified reason a majority of the time). Avoid trades when you control more space. Trading when it's hard for your opponent to manoeuvre around only helps them. It's not "rare" that a fianchetto bishop is worth more than a rook. I would say its decently common in KID positions. Usually you should trade the queens if you are up material. ESPECIALLY if you are lower on time. I hope this helps;)
@benx10 I was always told that trading pieces is okay when you get a solid advantage- such as you are already winning, you get open files, or you improve a piece of your own. Doubled pawns is also okay, but if your opponent hasn't castled yet it's not as effective
