Just a suggestion on how I can improve my skills would be alright.
I usually play 15+5 or 20+5 games on casual to practice, if it's casual you don't have to worry about losing rating and you can practice new ideas or openings. Play positions with stockfish to practice specific positions.
Play. Study. Play some more.

I'm not good, so I'm not qualified to give a real answer but I feel bad about my joke. I'd say learn the first few moves of a few openings and learn the basic checkmate patterns. It didn't make me good, but it did make me feel like I had a plan while I play and it's made chess a little more fun for me.
