What was the last thing you studied? An opening or an endgame?

I watched a video a while back and the person said that beginners ought to get good at endgames before focusing on the opening. Which do you prefer to watch videos on or study in general?
Personally I always thought it'd be better to study openings vefore endgames. What good will endgame knowledge do if you can't make it out of the opening.
It's like learning to run before you've learnt how to stand.
personally, i think that learning the opening first is better than learning the endgame first becs the opening will decide the middlegame and the middlegame the endgame.

well ok but learning the mainline is easier, no?
for pieces, ya may be a little complex but that is the fun in chess

Does anyone at your 1500 rating level knows mainline ? Stronger player who practised endgames can beat you with bongcloud or qf3 qxf6 queen odds
I just opened a Chessable account and tried to see some good courses. I was interested in the Ragozin Defense, and I liked it.

I just had a look on youtube for the video but I can't find it, it has been a long time since I watched it. But the general idea is that you need to know specifics at the end of a chess game to land a checkmate and many endgames are just so easy to mess up because you do not know what you're doing. Without watching videos have a go at checkmating a king with a king, bishop and a knight, or with a king and two bishops. Also try a king and queen vs a king and pawn where the pawn is on the 7th rank about to promote. All these positions can be won but can be tricky if you don't study them.
