@mdinnerspace I have tried "simuling" myself vs friends (me playing both boards in 2 different windows) and I am much worse at the game when simuling: that is because playing 2 boards requires more time, and in bughouse time is so much important that even if I had a better idea of what was going on (perfect communication), overall my play was weaker (even if I had lot of fun). Now this was to say that a player would not get an advantage by playing his partner board, rather a disadvantage cause of time. Suggesting moves is possible and usually happens in key/critical moments (for example to find a mate or to create an attack or to get an important piece for the other board)
@the-lone-wolf

The claim that it would be a disadvantage for a player to be playing both boards in Bughouse because of the time factor is irrelevant imo. Maybe it is true for some players. Certainly not for very strong players who can play very fast.
I seem to be in a minority on this. It's the rules we played by years ago when there was no internet. Games were 5 minute. It just wasn't done. Telling your partner what moves to make was thought of as being unethical. We'd chat, saying "I need a pawn, or my opponent has stopped moving, how's your time?" but not play both boards by suggesting moves. In todays world, not so. Taking advantage of the technology available, such as skype, is "entertaining" and can't be prevented. Hence, it is permitted and thought of as being perfectly OK.
I assure you that even very strong players will have a disadvantage cause of time against other strong players...
Ok ? so what? Two strong players have at. Weaker players may as well order a pizza.
I think ur talking very fast time controls. In a normal game of 5 minute blitz, ur assumption is not valid.
Did you see Magnus yesterday playing a Chess Brah 1/2 0 ? (I checked out after 150 games.) Geez. Faster than a speeding bullet. Those guys can play a 30 second game at a higher level than masters can play OTB in 90 minutes.
No big argument here. I'm old school. Today, any chat goes in Bughouse. I get it. You got Discord and Skype. The technology is great fun.
In the old days, if a player told his partner, "you have to capture the Knight on g3 with your Bishop, otherwise it is mate in 1", that player would be run out of the hall. One player is playing the board, not two.
You HAVE to play fast in bughouse, no matter the time control. If you have the time advantage, you control which board the game is played on. You sacrificed some material for an attack and now have mate on the next move? Too bad you're down 10 seconds - with the extra material, your partner's opponent has enough time to kill your partner twice over.

Or maybe your partner's opponent started sitting just as queens were about to be exchanged on that board, causing your attack to peter out. Now you're down material against an opponent who's probably getting a queen at a time of his choosing.
