New Variant Idea

What if somebody created a variant wherein every time you capture a piece, the piece you used to capture becomes whatever you took (i.e. if I take a bishop with a knight, my knight becomes a bishop).

It might not work, but it seems like it would add a completely new and unique strategic element. Could be fun!

Lmk your opinions!
ok this is probably already an established variant, but i'd ask what problems of orthochess does this variant fix? why play this rather than orthochess? i mean yes it is a change from orthochess if you are bored with it, but there are so many other chess variants that offer a more drastic change that increases the depth of the game or solves problems with orthochess. your variant is an interesting gimmick that some might want to try out once or twice if they want a break from orthochess but not much more than that and not very good at that.
@kocbftn Problems with orthochess? Didn't know there was such a thing.

Anyway I like jsshap's idea, but I independently came up with the same variant quite a few years back, and probably I was far, far from the first. It is not too different from chess except you can't really take pawns with your queen.
I guess you shouldn't really take anything with your queen. Sounds interesting. LOL
I kinda like it.

Scenario: White does a greek gift sacrifice, but when the king captures the bishop, it becomes a bishop and black loses from lack of a king
I like the idea of this variant. I'd make 1 adjustment though so that pawns are not effected either way by this capture scheme. Otherwise there would be so many pawns on the board that it's pawn takes pawn takes pawn takes pawn over and over.

There could be a couple of other variants out of this one as well.

1) You have the option to swap for the captured piece, but do not need to do so. So if my queen takes a rook I can choose to not demote it.

2) Your piece becomes a fairy chess piece that absorbs the moves of the other piece and keeps it's own.

Bishops taking knights and vice versa become a combo bishop knight.

Rooks and knights taking each other become a combo and vice versa.

Knights and queens same deal.
This variant seems too hard for me,but maybe it's interesting.
actually I just dreamed of a variation where pieces have a value (let's say the usual p=1, b=n=3, r=5, q=9) and when a piece makes a capture "gains as much experience as that value", when a piece reaches a certain experience level, it "levels up"
let's say that a bishop to reach level 2 needs 2 points, then after having captured at least 2 pawns it levels up and gains more move power
no, I don't make use of drugs
