Lets take a moment to talk about Henry Bird

looking at the game you played i think it shows well why amateurs should be carefull playing this. a small inaccuracy with the knight on F6 instead of e7 and it's all over
Once upon a time, there were three knights in full armor, parading in front of their king, ready to battle each other in a sword fight to the death, with the hand of the princess vowed to the sole survivor.

One knight (he regularly plays the Steinitz defense in the Ruy Lopez) withdraws his glorious, shimmering broadsword from its sheath and bellows: "Ay, I'm ready!"

His rival, a keen advocate of the Morphy defense, disengages his rapier and whispers through gritted teeth: "Bring it on, you miserable wretch!"

The third one brought a pink dildo and nonchalantly asks: "Anybody here playing the Bird defense?"
@ TheBigDecline.
"any of the other modern players if that matters, who could smoke these 19th century Chess celebrities in their pipe. "
I'm not so sure, as we don't know how the same talent would exhibit itself under different conditions. If we took the players from then (even if we omit Paul Morphy, clearly a world-beater by any standard), they would now have the chance to play professionally and there is no reason why they shouldn't pick up modern openings and use computers. Through the glass the other way, our modern top people moved to the 19th century and without today's accumulated knowledge and infrastructure may not be quite the stars they appear to be now.
@coledavis I think it's funny that the only activity we imagine our heroes to engage in, after a zany, most unprecedented trip to another time, is to simply continue playing Chess, just like nothing happened! ^^

Aah, but whatever, I still think Carlsen is the GOAT, with or without computers. And that's the gist of the matter: I think. I believe ... but I got no way to prove my assertions. And maybe that's for the better.

Here is the game mentioned in #10. Remark that instead of 7...Ne7 as in #2 black plays the stronger 7...d6.
