Is there a way to disable/enable move confirmation during a game?

#9
I know you have strong opinion about move confirmation - I remember we "arqued" about it on another thread - it was about prewriting moves on the scoresheet OTB...
Maybe I should give it a try and play 3+0 arena with move confirmation set instead of 100% berserk and see whether it avoids blunders/mouseslips and consumes more or less than half of the given time.
Obviously, I have no clue about what I am talking here - I have never ever used move confirmation. :<
But I do recommend this move-confirm-feature for rapid/classical or even slow increment blitz!
In order to avoid mouseslips and not to avoid blunders. Infinite takebacks as you say :)
Btw. I am much older than you think - and I dont want to admit that I am too slow for fast time controls.
Playing speed chess is a competition against the younger generation out there - I guess I was playing online while most of my current (ultra/bullet) opponents were not even born. :0
Cheers :-)

"I dont want to admit that I am too slow for fast time controls" - wait till you have my age...

The essence is that one should always check if the intended move is no blunder. That is not my advice, but that of Capablanca, Blumenfeld, Kotov, Krogius... It makes one not only lose less, but also brings more joy: losing by a blunder is no fun.
Move confirmation is a potent feature to almost cheat. How many times have we not witnessed: "I saw it was a blunder right after I played it" well move confirmation allows to pre-empt that. If you can actually see the intended move, it is like adding 1 ply to your calculation and awareness depth.

I am very curious about the results of move confirmation in 3+0 blitz instead of berserk. My respect, the fastest I ever play is 5+0...

In videos of very strong blitz players (e.g. Fischer) it is seen that he sometimes grabs a piece, hovers over a possible square and then puts the piece elsewhere. I see that as an indication that he was blunder checking his intended move.

Please refund my points! :-))
You were curious and I decided to give it a try.
Not in a tourney, but in the lobby, played two 3+0 blitz games in my rating range.
No way I am going to play with move confirmation on in the arena!!!
To berserk is to gamble, it is fun - but this thing just bothered me - it is completely useless in fast time controls.
Sorry but I was more focused on that "Yes or No" for each single move rather than checking whether it was a blunder.
Well, I am sure that move confirmation will take less than a half of the time once you get adapted to it. You are right!
Still it ruined the fun for me in as I was just forgetting to click there and was more focused on executing a move rather than playing itself.
I will wait until I have your age :-))

I feel sorry to hear it did not work for you.
Well 3+0 is fast in my eyes.
Maybe blitz is too fast for confirmation.
You twice got behind on the board as well as on time. Maybe confirming took away too much of your attention.
On the other hand I see a more recent game that you lost by a blunder and you might have saved by blunder checking.
Yes, I am willing to refund you your points.
We can play 3+0 and I am sure to time out thus refunding you your points.
If I try move confirmation in ultra and it doesn’t work can you refund me tpr by playing 3+0 with me also and flagging :D jk
I mean... you can just keep the move confirmation settings open in another tab and switch on and off at will.
#15, dear @tpr - your eyes must hurt! :o
You have examined my last 3 lost games - but only the first two of them were played with move confirmation on.
Actually the third game - which I have lost on blunder - is the best example on how useful the move confirmation feature would have been...

I have picked my bishop and was going to play 16.Bxd6 and then noticed, that 16.Ndxe4 is a much better move.
By putting bishop "back" to the initial square I forgot that it was on f4 and played 16.Bg3?? which dropped a piece and an exchange.
Another note or excuse why that has happened: the game was played in zen mode which hides notation...
No points refund required, thanks - I was kidding - but I would be happy to play you sometime :-)

Dear @CalbernandHowbe - I am not surprised - there is no confirmation needed for premoves.
You berserk 2000 rated players in ultra tourneys and to confirm moves takes less than a half of the time.
You are so fast that you are even able to participate in chat while winning ultra-shild-tourney!
It’s much harder than expected - I am playing on the phone and I have to make a move, tap the top of the screen for move confirmation, sometimes I tap the wrong place and it means that I go to a position which was on the board a few moves back!
