is the Italian the best opening?

please tell me if the italian opening is the best opening
There is no best / worst opening. Openings go in and out of fashion. Different openings suit different styles of play; and crucial is the level of chess you are talking about. What may be an excellent one for an elite GM probably wouldn't suit an average club player.
Why? Because of the huge amount of opening theory elite players have to learn.
How much time do you want to ut in on openings. If you are an average player - which your question suggests - then choose an opening where you only need to learn the general ideas, and not pages of opening theory. For instance if you play the Kings Indian Attack as white there is less theory to learn.
@Hirohit0 , Ruy Lopez is the best opening, but there are lots of other good options.
Reti
Italian
Queens Gambit
and many others.

Is the Italian a good opening? Yes. The best? Probably not. It could be though.

First of all, you need to identify how you play your games. Do you go for gambits and quick attacks in sharp openings or slow and precise development derived from positional openings? Or maybe something in between?

I play the Italian quite a lot as I find it very entertaining as white. I usually get a lot of space on the queenside, with a somewhat solid center. Suits me perfectly, I'm leaning more towards an aggressive playstyle. Then again, at your level I would recommend doing tactics and checking your options twice before making a move, but if you want to play the Italian, go ahead! :)
Italian is solid. I prefer the Ruy Lopez most of the time though.
It is comparable to what you enjoy playing. Slow positions? Sure the italian Guico Piano or Giuoco Pianissimo are some of the best openings for that.
Honestly there is no best opening like others have said in this chat, though there are some better than others . I wouldn't suggest learning an opening because you've heard its good, but instead check it out your self and if you like it. I suggest that you find some players that have a play style that is like yours or one that you can understand. But that being said the Italians game is a good opening, its used at a chess club and on the worlds stage so by no means is it bad, but that being said if your playing 1.E4 you'll need to prepare for a lot more then your 1.e5 replies.
Oh yeah one more thing if your studying a line in an opening and using the computer, don't just use the computers moves every single time, first of all you most likely won't understand the reasoning behind the moves, second you'll probably lose because in those sought of lines if you don't play a best move it'll be a blunder or mistake and that could be catastrophic. One more thing if your finding an opening to play study the middle games produced by the openings that your looking at, there is no point in playing an opening if you don't enjoy the position you get out of it.
Of the king pawn openings, the Ruy Lopez is considered the best. However, most GMs and computers agree that the queen pawn opening is better.
