If Magnus doesn't defend his title, should he be stripped of 2003-2021 titles?

What do you think? Also, should all his games be removed from online databases? What other punishments should be enforced to stop this?
There's no punishment for withdrawing from the World championship match, at least before the players signed the contracts for the match.

"2. 2. If the World Champion or the Challenger withdraws for any reason, he is replaced by the runner-up of the FIDE Candidates
Tournament."

Besides, why should he be forced to defend the title if he is not into it? Loosing the WC title should the punishment enough, no?
Punishment? Is he no longer a free man in a free country, but has become a slave of FIDE?
where is the tribunal... this is getting serious stuff....

sorry: since lichess dropped the lobby peek window for combined recent forum posts, i get lost and pick some random thread....

Should Fisher have been stripped from the 1972 World Champion title? Should Karpov been stripped from all his World Champion titles because he refused to participate in 1999?

Did they tease the audience and other players? It's not fair to say "Maybe I won't play" while the Candidates is going on. The players should know if they are playing for first or first and second place.

This is another case of Magnus can do whatever he wants and no one does anything about it.

Are you saying he needs to be commit to playing before the Candidates even start? What should happen if he at a later moment decides not to play? Or gets sick? Or dies?

Alternatively, FIDE could have decided to do what they did in 1975. If the reining champion doesn't play, the winner of the Candidates tournament becomes World Champion: no chance for number #2.

It would be a very sad world if people cannot opt not to play.

You are bringing up red herrings. I never said anything about sickness or death. This is on the premise of consistent status. Right now, the only thing rational is money. He would want more money. Should we support this?

If you want more money, state how much and then commit to it. Or, do as Radjabov did with the "COVID Candidates" and leave so someone else can play.

Could have, but we have options now. There is no point in talking about past speculations. Either commit or step away and let someone else play.

Again, I never stated that. You do have the option, but you should make that choice before the Candidates so the players know whether or not they are going to play Carlsen or 1 or 2 in the tournament.
How about no and no, and it would be nice if they returned to the Candidates Matches, then there would be no confusion, as for how the replacement would be declared, removing his games from the database is just stupid lol
