I think you can go to try Ruy Lopez: Fianchetto Defense. This opening is now I am Research. And I think this opening is not bad.

Bird defense is somewhat off-beat. Most ruy players don't have a well-developed repertoire against this, as a lot of books stop analysis after a few moves.

Tricks don't usually work against Ruy Lopez..
