Chess is Good for Mental Health

If only I could take psychotherapists for serious scientists ...
Breaking news: Chess reduces criminality. If only more people would play chess for hours and hours, there would be much less criminality. 😀
Morphy, Steinitz and Fischer all went nuts and the rest were not exactly 'normal'
Maybe the game attracts people who tend towards suffering from mental health issues as they experience it as beneficial for them.
Chess is absolutely beneficial. Gufeld used to say chess is art, science, as well as a game, and he was absolutely right.

Chess is more or less, infinite. Yet it's more interactive than other "pure intellect" pursuits.

Besides those Gufeld mentioned it's also language - and music goes into it as well.

So absolutely, good for mental health.
I would say,it depends on the extent to which u r willing to play,if u r casual player with no real ambitions then you would enjoy chess more than a person who is obsessed with it.Complete casual players play chess like they would play ludo, for them no matter what the result is they would laugh and have fun and sleep peacefully but for a guy like fischer for whom chess was life ,if he loses a game then for him its like a big part of his life got lost.IF u r serious about chess, its really tough sometimes to digest losses and many people cant even sleep, so yeah in that way I feel like chess is sometimes destroying mental health as players become too obsessed, they dont want to play but cant help themselves, they try many attempts to leave the game but they cant.Chess sometimes like other things also involves an ego factor in which players go crazy to increase their rating to prove that they are worthy and nonetheless that persuit or obsession robs them of the joy not only of the game but other areas of life as well.
