Well he has a point, but you can say that on almost every thing and game.
i personally feel better than i see that i can even be 1900 in blitz or 2200-2300 it makes me feel like i am not that much of a loser.
without chess i would have even worse depression, it takes my mind, it makes me connected, focused.
it let's me forget reality, all of the social anxiety problems, it let's me forget that i do not have friends, that i am poor and stuff.
chess taught me how to make decisions, i am not scared of making decisions i can make moves in my life too, i hate being neutral and static.
chess has pros and cons like everything.
Wow. this is called being tilted on another level. the problem you are doing is letting chess measure your level of intelligence, your level of creativity, and ultimately your self esteem. you need to disconnect these things and just enjoy the game. the game is about improving and having fun.
