CHEATERS

For now, there is not many. I think I have reported one suspected player in the 57 games that I have played on this account. For the record, I never got any confirmation back that I had indeed played a cheater... So after evaluation of that game, they probably determined he was just having a great middle game.

On my old account, I maybe reported 3 people out of 550 games played, only receiving conformation back on 1 game that I had played a cheater.

Sometimes, what we see as suspicious is actually just a form of brilliance. I now carefully computer analyze the moves after any suspicious/brilliant behavior. This is actually more reassuring than waiting on Lichess to analyze it... If I analyze first and never find a huge trend of all computer moves I don't even bother to waste the time of the people looking through these reports.

As GM Ben Finegold would say, "the truth hurts" and sometimes the other player is just simply better. I try to find the opportunity to learn from the game then and there.

yes and i am one of them last night i cheated on my girlfriend and even though i felt bad about it i had to do it cos i suspected she might be cheating on me too. tit for tat.
Cheating is rampant, I believe somewhere between 40 and 70 percent. Ask yourself how often do you lose games when you are a piece or more ahead. On this site going up a piece is almost certain to cost you the game,the opposing players will start to play like aGrandmaster, actually stronger than a Grandmaster. In over the board chess it is unusual to lose to a player of your own strength when up a piece or two but here it is the norm. The trolls will say I'm sour grapes and that if they are cheating why do they have such a low rating. The answer is if most chess players are low rated the majority of the cheaters will be low rated, if they get too much assistance from the chess engine they get caught then they must start over with a new account, so Lowlife gets booted and comes back 10 minutes later as lowlife2.

Not all cheats, cheat in the same way. The easily caught cheats use an engine for nearly every move. The more difficult to catch cheatsmay only use the engine for tactcal sequences, or not use the best move but a move way down on the best move list, just enough to keep a small edge. Some will use a lag switch so your connection will be lost.

Ask yourself why a player that was crushing you so badly changes personalities in the last 30 seconds or minute and goes for a win on time?

Why are there so many players with very low scores on the tactics puzzles that kick tactical butt when they play a real game.
@Billybobobamaesq :
There is 0 cheaters at your rating range (exept sometimes the easily found out kind and only in tournaments). even players cheating juuuust a little get caught. Also, cheaters get their IP archived and all the names similar to the previous one get scanned.
there is tens of ways lichess engine take care of cheaters actually.
Even using the second best moves can reveal you because the engine is smarter than that.

A player low on time can realise they don't have the time to checkmate you (1 min is too much but 30s without increment?) and thus go for the timer.
Also, the tactics puzzles are not taken seriously by many players=> you can use them in different ways like training your ability to find tactics under time pressure for example. So you can't really judge the strenght of a player based on that (there is even people doing these puzzles only when they are drunk xD).

ps: there IS a few good cheaters around but only about 10 or so (and they are all really well classed). No need to be paranoid about it.
LOL, zero cheaters at my range, that is like saying there are no cheaters at all. I'm not sure why some people cannot or will not admit that the bulk of the cheaters are rated very low . Putting your head in the sand doesn't change the fact.
@Billybobobamaesq
that might be some of the silliest nonsense Ive ever heard.

the only logic behind running into cheaters 'at your range' is surrounded around 1500? being the starting rating; so if you are playing a lot of brand new accts I guess* it is feasible you may see more engines than normal.

That being said; your actual logic being used is nonsense.

If you are going up a piece and losing; that has nothing to do with cheaters. It has to do with...you not doing well in a advantage; being able to get pieces but not find checkmate.

Plus, being up a piece doesnt necessarily mean you have the advantage. there are many instances where sacrificing a certain piece, or pieces, can actually give you a heavy advantage or put you in line for a fast mate (ie queen's gambit or desperado moves for a couple easy examples)
You also must account for psuedo sacrifices vs real sacrifices; and the difference between a actual piece taken and a sacrifice.

You should also account for players ratings in other variants.
For instance, My rating in standard chess is laughable. But, I'm 1600-2000 in RK, Anti, & ZH.
Hence, I just havent put anytime trying to raise my standard rating. A 1500 might be as good as a 2000; they just resign a lot or just simply dont care. IE I find myself resigning sometimes as I'll start a game while waiting for something or someone; and then that something or someone arrives before my game ends. I cant say, hey wife or hey kids: im not done playing, sit quietly while I finish. Not if I wanna stay married anyway. Online chess is a way to pass the time for a lot of people. Has nothing to do with anything other than that.

Check my post history. I have a history of calling out cheats; and saying that the site DOES have an issue with engines/bots. BUT, what you are saying is just not true for all intensive purposes.

40-70% hahaha.
Try 4-7% and you might be onto something. Probably closer to 1-3%. But any # is too high; but its the cost of playing online chess. Hell, really just the cost of playin chess in general (or any game) IRL people get caught all the time.
I like Billy's logic :)
I never cheated, so being in this cheater-infested range means, I am as good as many engines - wow.
Billybobobamaesq hasn't reported a single player. Yet he estimates that around 40-70% are using assistance. Something is off.
